Description
Floating frame, black
This specific frame of my original design was made to showcase ambrotypes, tintypes and photographs printed on raw paper such as cyanotype, Van Dyke brown, salt paper, kallitype, carbon and so on. It is specifically designed to hold any artwork made on heavy paper (cardboard type or watercolor heavy paper) in a manner so that the art piece is well shown in its consistency, finish edges and cut, so everything is available to the observer with no reserves.
I don’t like to cover art crafts under a glass or inside a box. That’s why I designed this ‘floating frame’. The design keeps the piece at a distance from the base of the board while ‘forwards’ it to the observer. The L-type hooks, golden, provide attachment to the board without hurting the art piece in any way, making it removable for any inspection.
A kind of hard paper is required to be featured on this floating frame. All my prints are made on heavy paper, cardboard type (carton) such as weights ranging from 285 gr/sqm to 330 gr/sqm. This frame is good also for to showcase silver gelatine prints printed on double weight papers.
Original design
The frame is an original concept of my own. It’s made of solid wood for the frame and plywood for the back (both bottom board and intermediate spacing board). The frame is brush painted in matt black with acrylic paint.
The back board is nailed to frame and edges are sealed with Japanese Sekisui tape museum quality. Two brass-coated crocodile hooks provide the ability to showcase both portrait and landscape orientated pictures.
Details
This particular floating frame medium size comes with 4 brass-coated L-type hooks for to securely hold both ambrotypes or prints.
